A rich, full bodied maduro with a sweet aroma. The triple blend of fillers really makes this cigar flavorful.
Pre-Smoke Unlit this deep, dark wrapper looks and smells delicious. The dark Broadleaf is a mixture of dark chocolate colors and black, and is lightly toothy, giving the cigar a rustic look. The stick was firm when pinched and the construction looked to be done well with tight seams and a clean cap.
After clipping, the draw proved to be good with some resistance and a sweet flavor was noted. A sweet earthy smell was apparent on the wrapper and the foot.
Burn
The cigar’s burn was almost always even, and the ash was a firm, medium gray.
The Flavor With a medium body from the start, the Onyx Reserve produced a great nutty flavor with dark coffee overtones. The smoke was very aromatic and sweet, and occasionally we noted a whiff of vanilla and cocoa.
Nuttiness changed to woodiness as the burn progressed, but the coffee flavors remained consistent to the end. There is an overall sweetness to this cigar which also carried all the way through.
The quantity of smoke put out by this cigar was amazing at the final third, and became richer and creamier. On the strength meter, we notched this in at medium to full. Smoke this one too fast, and the flavors will be harsh and metallic. But take your time with the Onyx Reserve, and it will reward you with a richness that is truly enjoyable.
