An often overlooked great tasting basic maduro cigar, the Partagas #8 Maduro should be a standard in every humidor. The rich cameroon wrapper has no equal for flavor and the strength is just full enough to be satisfying.
Pre-Smoke The wrapper on this cigar is very dark, almost oscuro, with a compost and barnyard smell. A well constructed stick, the Partagas is very solid and tight with little to no veining visible.
Burn
Great construction equals great burning characteristics. As long as I didn't smoke too fast, the Partagas exhibited an even, self-correcting burn with a fine burn line. No problems with the draw on this cigar and the light gray ash held on pretty well. Interestingly, there was little resting smoke, but a pull on the stick produced a mouthful of creamy, tasty smoke.
The Flavor Sweet earth and chocolate with some char are the basic flavors of this smoke. A little spice appears at the beginning, fades and then returns at the end. As the cigar reaches the middle, the smoke really becomes creamy and full with a smooth, long sweet finish.
This characteristic flavor continues to the end, never getting bitter or harsh. At a price point that is below many of the other currently popular maduro cigars, this cigar delivers a lot of bang for the buck.
