Wow! What a deep dark beauty, and we love the simplicity of the band. Originally created for Steve Saka, President of Drew Estate this cigar was number 9 out of 40 blends developed to his personal tastes. An outstanding cigar which may have limited production due to the availability of the wrapper. Get one while you can.
Pre-Smoke This cigar, with it's oscuro wrapper is incredible. Dark, lumpy and oily, it is well constructed and firm with no soft spots. Capped perfectly, it cuts beautifully and you can see the aged tobaccos firmly packed inside.
The wrapper exudes a sweet spiced coffee smell to it, and the cold draw is excellent with an earthy flavor.
Burn
Toasting the foot takes a little while to get a good even burn going, and the burn line - once going- is not super sharp, but there are no major problems in keeping this going smoothly. The smoke is white and very aromatic.
The Flavor The initial puffs are smooth and sweet on the tongue. An earthy flavor is accentuated by a fruitiness - like dried cherries or raisins. Light notes of dark cocoa and coffee, and a little spice appear on the palate making this a very enjoyable beginning.
As the cigar nears the middle third, the coffee notes appear more distinct, but the smoke remains lightly fruity and very creamy. A long finish adds more chocolate notes. By now the cigar is at pretty full strength, and smoking it too fast will give you a buzz.
Down the home stretch, the fruity flavors drop out and a leathery character appears, picking up a little spice here and there. This is truly an outstanding cigar, and would be a fabulous and elegant dessert to cap off a rich dinner.
