If you are traveling to Manhattan, be sure to put St. Andrews on the top of your list of "must visits". This temple of scotch not only has a bar that extends the length of the restaurant, but after 200 scotches we actually stopped counting. Their single malt selection is one of the best in the U.S. and fairly priced especially given their location near Times Square and the Theatre district of mid town. You might even want to peruse their extensive single malt list online, before you travel: www.standrewsnyc.com/scotchlist.html
A respite from the hectic pace of Times Square, its comfortable interior is more "club than pub" with dark woods, tartan patterns and classic prints. The menu features Scottish cuisine and St. Andrews is the only restaurant in Manhattan to serve homemade haggis, a legendary Scottish blood sausage in an updated fashion over neeps and tatties in a Pommery Mustard sauce. Those looking for something more familiar, will find plenty of choices including steak and ribs. This restaurant and bar is well know to both residents and tourists for their excellent food and extraordinary service.
St. Andrews is also home of the kilted bartenders, so while you wait for your main course or drink, a flash of tartan may catch your eyes, inevitably prompting the question, "What are you wearing under there?" - The proper answer is, of course, "Shoes!"
