This Nicaraguan puro is dedicated to the late Nicholas Perdomo Senior, the original father of the brand. The tobacco blend used in this cigar were his favorites.
Pre-Smoke
Unlit, this cigar is pretty good looking. The nutty brown wrapper glistens slightly, and while slightly lumpy seems pretty well packed. The wrapper scent is earthy with some chocolate more prominent at the foot.
After clipping the triple cap, the cold draw is good and tastes of chocolate.
Burn
We had some difficulty with the burn on the cigars we tasted, as the burn line was very uneven. Rotating the cigar wasn't enough to keep it even, and several touch-ups were needed throughout the smoke. Too bad as this can be distracting.
The Flavor
The first few puffs produced a sweet chocolate or cocoa flavor with a berry sweetness. The smoke is aromatic with chocolate scents, and I could have sworn I had picked up the maduro by mistake. Creamy coffee, caramel, and spice were all there, making this a very enjoyable sweet smoke. I detected a distinct honey floral flavor on the retrohale, which hung in the upper palate in the finish.
By the second third the chocolate flavor was waning, and more creaminess in the smoke. Picked up some faint leather and earthiness as well.
For a finale, the chocolate returned, bringing with it some caramel, leather and a very mild spice in the finish. Aside from the burn issues, the Patriarch was a very relaxing, enjoyable mild to medium smoke. When looking for a sweeter cigar, this one should be on your list.
