Rocky Patel's Renaissance, with its silky Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, and blend of rare Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers is a spicy, rich and decadent cigar - smooth, balanced and medium to full bodied. Initially released in 2008, the Renaissance is made at the El Paraiso factory in Danli, Honduras and is produced in limited quanities to maintain its high quality of construction and flavor.
Pre-Smoke Utilizing the Sumatran wrapper most notably used in the fabulous Edge, the Renaissance is a gorgeous cigar. Firm and beautifully constructed, the dark brown wrapper is silky and glistens with oils.
The pre-light draw is perfect and tastes of sweet tobacco.
Burn
Easily lit, the Renaissance puts out a large volume of spicy smoke from the start. The draw was easy and while the burn wavered a bit it was pretty much self-correcting. The white ash was a bit flaky but holds on well.
The Flavor A mild pepper/spice flavor is the first to hit the palate, giving way to creamy vanilla and some chocolate notes. Cinnamon appears in the spice as a back note occasionally, and the base flavor transitions into mild roasted nuts.
The Renaissance remains well balanced and smooth throughout the smoke and the finish is enjoyably long.
In the final third, an earthiness appears to mingle with the spice, coffee and nuts for a pleasing finish and a rich experience.
While not as full flavored as the Edge Sumatra (which is hard to find now), the Renaissance is an elegant cigar with rich flavor.
