Marking La Aurora's 107th Anniversary, the Serie 107 Anniversario utilizes a Sun Grown Ecuadorian wrapper over 6 year old fillers and binders to produce a very elegant and flavorful smoking experience.
Pre-Smoke We love the reddish hue of this wrapper, very rich looking. Minor veining is apparent and the sun grown wrapper is leathery with a slight grain, and not oily at all. A sweet aroma exudes from the wrapper, with just a touch of barnyard. The well constructed head clips cleanly, and a cold draw produces mild resistance and a dark syrupy flavor.
Burn
Once lit, the 107 burned exceptionally well leaving a tight clean ash initially. However, as the cigar burned, the ash tended to get very flaky around the edges and drop off. Volumes of smoke were produced with even the slightest draw and was very smooth and easily passed through the sinus. While not creating much resting smoke, the sweet aroma wafting up from this cigar was very pleasant.
The Flavor Smoke the 107 slowly and pay attention, to get the most out of the complexity of the flavors generated by the 6 year old Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers and binders.
Initially the 107 creates a fabulous combination of cream and spice, accented by a distinct white pepper flavor. Developing sweetness took the form of honey and molasses for a very intriguing taste.
As the strength moves from mild to medium in the middle third of the smoke, the flavor transitions from cream to leather to earth. The sweet molasses is still there, and while the white pepper dissipates, a distinct citrus note appears and then disappears. If you haven't been paying attention, you will miss it.
If that's not enough for you, the cream returns, playing off the earthiness, while the sweet molasses flavor continues. A hint of white pepper returns on the finish to tease the nostrils. All the while the 107 remains in the medium strength category, and stays smooth as silk.
Following the amazing 100 Anos, the 107 continues the La Aurora tradition of producing fine, elegant, complex cigars.
