Created by Jesus Fuego for Xikar, the Guardian is smooth and rich, with an incredibly luxurious Criollo wrapper aged four years.
Pre-Smoke The Criollo wrapper is very luxurious, with some veins apparent and a slight sweet cedar smell. The scent at the foot is more earthy and of compost. The stick is very firm and smooth.
A clip of the cap reveals a sweet tobacco flavor and an excellent draw. A little messy on the glue application for the sticker, but it did not damage the cigar.
Burn
Toasting the foot releases a pleasant aroma, and as the burn progresses, the dark gray ash stays fairly tight to the cigar. Good volumes of thick smoke arise and fill the mouth.
The Flavor The Defiance initially produces a medium strength of woody flavors with some mild fruitiness. The smoke is thick and mouth coating and creates a long smooth creamy finish.
As the middle third of the cigar is reached, some corojo spice and cedar creeps into the profile and dominates the flavor. Aromas of sweet vanilla and fruit appear and are a nice addition.
For the finale, the woody flavor continues to recede, while the spice deepens and becomes more complex. Throughout the cigar, the strength has remained in the medium range, and the thick smoke and long finish were constant. These are fine cigars, are complex and flavorful, and would be enjoyable either during the day or after a meal.
