The 100 Anos is a very limited edition commemorating La Aurora's 100th anniversary in the cigar making industry, and have been consistently ranked in the top 10 cigars in the world. Released in 2004, 100 Anos or Cien Anos is an incredible blend of Dominican binders and fillers that have been aging since 1996, wrapped in a fabulous corojo wrapper that was aged for four years.
Pre-Smoke What a beauty, the corojo wrapper is a glistening cinnamon color, smooth with very little grain. The head is finished with a triple cap, and the scents from the wrapper is rich and spicy.
Each stick is banded with a gorgeous multi-colored band featuring the Aurora lion, and individually numbered. The pre-light draw is firm and tastes of spice and grasses.
Burn
The burn is a bit finicky on this cigar, and may require some touchups, but the aroma of the smoke is stunning - rich and spicy. The ash is a light gray, fairly tight to the cigar and rippled with lots of tiny white dots.
The Flavor A smooth and mild beginning leads to a leathery flavor with an occasional sweet berry note. The volumes of smoke leave a creamy mouth feel and the cigar picks up strength as the burn continues. Some floral notes weave in and out of the flavor profile with a light sweetness that is unmatched in any other cigar.
By the second third, cedar/cinnamon flavors creep into the leathery background and sweet vanilla appears in the taste and in the aroma. All the while the cigar stays smooth and creamy.
For the finale, more cinnamon spice is added with hints of caramel. The 100 Anos is an incredible medium bodied cigar with loads of complexity and an exquisite aroma. It is unfortunate that this is a limited edition, knowing that at some point in the future it will no longer be available. It is also very pricey, but this is a smoking experience that should not be missed.
